HOW TO CONTACT EMPLOYERS AND LOOK FOR WORK?
Increase your knowledge in Finnish employers and Finnish labour market through websites, newspapers, online media services reporting of industrial and commercial life and its' trends. It might be a good idea to develop some routines for you job hunting process. Construct a list of job hunting channels for a regular follow-up: private or public agencies (also online), newspapers etc., and companies’ website.
Apply for advertised open vacancies on the Internet
Wanted ads can be found on companies' own websites, job boards provided by recruitment agencies and non-profit, governmental organisations such Aarresaari and Ministry of Labour. Most of the universities and polytechnics manage also their own job boards (TKK Career Web), where students can submit their CVs and search for potential open vacancies submitted by employers.
The applicant is usually being asked to apply for them by sending his/her application per email to given contact information. The applicant can be also asked to register him/herself as an active job seeker and to submit his/her CV or by completing an on-line application form. This is the case, if you didn't find any interesting open vacancies for the time being. Become familiar with the given instructions on the website or in the job advert.
Email your CV and Covering letter directly to employer
You can also send your open or speculative application direct to a person in HR or manager, whose name you have found out either on Internet or by phoning the company.
Networking
Use all available personal connections you have to find out information on potential employers: friends, fellow students (both foreign and Finnish), former co-workers, professors or teachers. Let people around you know that you are looking for a work!
"It has been estimated that about at least 70 percent of all job openings can be found only in the so-called ‘hidden labour market’. You will not find these job vacancies posted in the employment sections in papers nor in the Employment office; and yet they are really there. These are, for instance, projects that last less than a year or maternity leave vacancies and are, thus, qualified job offers that are the perfect way to enter working life in Finland. In practice, these jobs can only be found via personal networks, i.e. only if you know someone who knows of a vacancy for which you would be suited". (Source: Ministry of Labour).
